ABOUT Maach Hola (No Spice Fish Curry) RECIPE

My grandma's original fish recipe that requires very little ingredients and even lesser cooking skills. Delicious and versatile enough to be cooked with any type of fish, Rohu, Hilsa or even Prawns.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 4 pieces rohu Fish
  2. 1 large Potato finely chopped thinner and shorter
  3. 1 large Onion finely chopped
  4. 5-6 slit Green chillies
  5. 1 tsp of Turmeric powder
  6. ½ cup of fresh Coriander leaves
  7. 3 tablespoon of Mustard oil
  8. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Gently scrub rohu pieces with pinch of turmeric powder and salt. Leave this for a minute or so.
  2. Add tbsp. of mustard oil to a pan and lightly saute marinated fish for 3-4 minutes. Just sear the fish don’t fry it to golden. Set aside.
  3. Add remaining oil to pan and when it reaches smoking hot add potatoes and cook until golden. Add chopped onions and green chilies. Stir for few minutes.
  4. Now add fish along with 2 cups of water. Cook covered on low for 10-15 minutes or until fish is cooked.
  5. Season with salt and add ½ tsp of turmeric powder. Cook for few minutes and add fresh coriander. Cook for 1 minute.
  6. Turn off the flame and serve with rice.
