Try out these stuffed dumplings from Uttar Pradesh. Fresh coconut enhances the flavour of these dumplings. The dish is full of nutrients like protein etc. It is light on the stomach too.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Fresh Coconut grated 1 cup
  2. Chana dal 1/2 cup
  3. white urd dal 1/2 cup
  4. Dal moong 1/2 cup
  5. Rice powder 1 CUP heaped
  6. Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
  7. Garlic 1 tsp chopped
  8. Ginger 1 tsp chopped
  9. Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  10. hing 1 pinch
  11. Dhania powder 1/2 tsp
  12. Garam masala powder 1/2 tsp
  13. Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  14. Kishmish 20
  15. Coriander leaves 1/2 cup
  16. oil 2 tbsp
  17. Salt 1 tsp

Instructions

  1. Grate coconut .Clean daals.
  2. Soak daals in water for 4 hours. Strain the water.Grind them coarsely in a grinder.
  3. Heat 1 tbsp oil in kadhai.Add cumin seeds,hing then ginger and garlic.
  4. Add turmeric powder,chilli powder and dhania powder.Add daals.Saute and cook daals well.
  5. Add Coconut and salt.Cover it for 5 minutes .Mix and scrap it well.Add coriander ,garam masala powder and kishmish.
  6. Boil glass of water.When it starts boiling take it off the heat and mix rice flour in it.Add 1/2 tsp of salt.Stir it well so no lumps are formed.
  7. Keep it covered for 10 minutes.
  8. Grease your hand and knead the nice and pliable dough.
  9. Divide the dough into equal portions of balls.
  10. Make round puri with hand and fill 1 tsp of dal and coconut mixture.
  11. Cover it with another puri and make dumpling.For the perfect shape You can use a mould .
  12. Make all of them like this.When all are made heat 3 glasses of water in a big patila. Steam them for 15 minutes keeping them in a colander .
  13. Switch off the gas.Cool them for 5 minutes then serve hot with red chilli chutney.
