ABOUT Kofta curry with coconut gravy RECIPE

Coconut is the main ingredient in most of the Goan dishes. Curries in Goa are mainly made of a paste of coconut, turmeric, red chilli and tamarind. This was a dish I was very fond of as a kid. It was my grand mother's speciality. We would often request her to make it. Hope people enjoy this yummy dish

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Coconut 1 cup
  2. Besan 1 cup
  3. Onion medium 1
  4. Ginger 1 inch
  5. Green chilli 1
  6. Garam masala 1 tsp
  7. Carrom seeds 1/4 tsp
  8. Chopped corriander leaves 2 tbsp
  9. Salt 1 tsp
  10. Turmeric 1/4 tsp
  11. Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  12. Tamarind pulp 1 tsp
  13. Sugar to taste
  14. Water 2 cups

Instructions

  1. Finely cut onion. Add salt to it and leave it aside for 10 min
  2. Add to it grated Ginger, chopped green chili, chopped corriander leaves, carom seeds. Mix and add besan little by little till it forms a tight dough
  3. Divide into equal parts and roll them into balls
  4. Heat water in a pan, add the koftas and let it cook. Turn over and see that they are cooked on both sides
  5. Grind together grated coconut, tamarind, turmeric and red chilli powder and it to the boiled koftas
  6. Once the gravy has boiled add salt and sugar to taste
