Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup chana dal
  2. 1 inch ginger
  3. 4-5 green chillies
  4. 1 tsp jeera
  5. 1 tsp saunf
  6. a pinch of hing
  7. 1 tbsp oil
  8. salt to taste
  9. Red chilly powder 1 tsp
  10. haldi 1/2 tsp
  11. Green coriander chopped


  1. Wash and cook the chana dal in a pressure cooker for minimum 4-5 full steam pressure. We want the chana dal to break down completely. Once cooked drain off any excess water and keep aside. I use that drained dal water to knead my flour.
  2. In a kadhai heat oil. Add hing followed by jeera and saunf. Once they splutter add finely chopped green chilly and ginger, saute for 30 seconds and add haldi powder followed by cooked chana dal, red chilly powder and salt.
  3. Mix everything well and cook till water evaporates and everything starts coming together. Add chopped coriander leaves and keep aside to cool. As the mixture will cool down it will thicken further.
  4. Once completely cool you can make ur parathas by stuffing this masala. These parathas will stay for 2-3 days without refrigeration.
