This is very popular dish cookes in srilanka on any special occasions or festivals..the basmati rice flavoured with cinnamon,peppercorns,coconut and turmeric...it tastes well with any non veg curry or pol sambhar...

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Basmati rice 1 cup
  2. Oil 1 tbsp
  3. Ghee 1 tbsp
  4. Cinnamon 2 sticks
  5. Pepper corns 6
  6. Cardamons 2
  7. Cloves 4
  8. Almonds 4
  9. Black raisins 6
  10. Coconut grated 1 cup
  11. curry leaves 6
  12. Turmeric 1 tsp
  13. salt as per taste
  14. Water 2 cups
  15. For garnishing
  16. Coconut grated 1 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Wash the rice until water runs clear Now heat oil and ghee in a heavy pan ..Add cinnamon,pepper corns,almonds,black raisins,cardamon,curry leaves and saute for few min till you have very light burnt smell...
  2. Now add grated coconut,turmeric,washed rice and mix well and cook for few min..
  3. Finally add water and cook on low flame for 15 -20 min till the rice are grainy and all the water is absorbed well...
  4. Serve it with grated Coconut on the top and pol sambhar..
