ABOUT Colocasia root curry RECIPE

This is traditionally cooked in Goan hindu families with toor dal and coconut gravy. The addition of Tefhal spice or Siachuan Pepper gives it an unique taste and it helps in digestion.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 4 Colocasia roots
  2. Toor dal or pigeon pea dal 1/4 cup
  3. Coconut half
  4. Kokam 2 pieces
  5. Siachuan pepper or Teflaem 4
  6. Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
  7. Red chilli 1
  8. Tamarind pulp 1 tsp
  9. Jaggery 1 tbsp
  10. Salt to taste
  11. Water 1 cup

Instructions

  1. Cook toor dal in a pressure cooker along with cleaned and cut colocasia roots and kokam for 3 whistles
  2. Grate the coconut and grind it with turmeric powder, red chilli, tamarind and water into a fine paste and it to the cooked toor dal
  3. Hit slightly the Tefhal spice in a mortar and pestle and add it to the curry
  4. Once the curry has boiled add jaggery and salt
