ABOUT Black Forest Cake RECIPE

This cake originates in Germany and is named so, due to the Kirsch liqour got from the Black Forest region. Cherries infused in this liqour are used as filling in the layers

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup maida, sifted
  2. 1/3 cup Oil
  3. 3/4 Cup Powdered Sugar
  4. 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  5. 3/4 cup milk
  6. 1 teaspoon vinegar
  7. 1 teaspoon baking soda
  8. 1/2 Tsp Vanilla essence
  9. 1-2 tablespoon frozen cherries soaked in kirsch liquor or rum ( Optional )
  10. 1 pinch salt
  11. 1 cup Rich Whipping cream , Whipped and cold
  12. 1/2 cup sugar syrup
  13. 1/2 cup Grated Dark Compound

Instructions

  1. Pre heat the oven to 180 degrees for 10 minutes.
  2. Grease a 6 inch round cake tin and line the base with parchment paper.
  3. Mix the milk and vinegar and keep aside for 5 mins. The milk will curdle. This is called Buttermilk that is used for cake recipes.
  4. Sift the maida, cocoa powder, baking soda, sugar, salt and keep.
  5. Add the oil and vanilla essence to the buttermilk.
  6. Add the wet ingredients to the dry one and mix gently to get a uniform batter.
  7. Bake for about 25/30 mins. Check with tooth pick. If it comes out clean, the cake is done.
  8. Demould the cake after cooling.Let it cool completely before applying icing.
  9. Cut the cake horizontally in two layers. Soak the layers with the sugar syrup lightly and little of the liquor as well.
  10. Apply the whipped cream between the two layers. Add the cherries and the grated dark Chocolate.Keep the top layer of the cake and similarly apply the whipped cream on the top and sides. Sprinke grated Dark Chocolate on the top and sides
  11. Cool the cake in the fridge for 30 minutes. Again, apply the final layer of Whipped cream and giving neat finishing with a butter knife.
  12. Decorate with the frozen cherries. Store in fridge till the cakes sets well. Remove from fridge one hour before serving or have it Chilled...!!

what is heavy cream ? Can we whip malai for icing this cake ?
