ABOUT Red Velvet Cake RECIPE

A beautiful red cake with mild chocolate flavour topped and filled with cream cheese icing

Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. 3 cups cake flour(or 2 and 2/3 cup all purpose flour +1/3 cup cornflour)
  2. 1 tsp baking soda
  3. 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  4. 1 stick butter
  5. 2 cups caster sugar
  6. 1 cup refined oil
  7. 4 eggs, separated
  8. 2 tbsp vanilla essence
  9. 1 tsp vinegar white
  10. 1 cup buttermilk
  11. 4 tbsp raspberry red colour

Instructions

  1. Pre heat oven at 180 degrees
  2. Prepare the cake tins(2) by greasing and flouring it.
  3. Mix together, flour, cocoa and baking soda.
  4. Beat the egg whites till peaks form, keep aside.
  5. In another large bowl add the butter and sugar beat with a hand mixer till light.
  6. Now add the yolks, oil and essence and beat some more, about 5 to 8 minutes.
  7. Add in the vinegar and food colour. Add more colour if you want a brighter cake. Beat till incorporated
  8. Now add the dry ingredients in parts alternating with buttermilk and mixing with a spatula
  9. Finally add the egg whites and gently fold in till well mixed
  10. Pour in the cake tins and bake for 35 minutes or till done
  11. Remove from oven and cool overnight before frosting
