This is a traditional recipe of bengal.It is most popular during monsoon season when hilsha fish is easily and freshly available.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Hilsha pieces 4
  2. 3 tbsp black mustard seeds
  3. 1 tbsp freshly grated coconut
  4. Salt to taste
  5. Turmeric powder
  6. Mustard oil
  7. Banana leaves
  8. Few green chillies
  9. Thread

Instructions

  1. Make a paste of mustard,coconut and green chillies
  2. Rub the fish pieces with salt and turmeric powder
  3. Now cut the banana leaves to make small parcels
  4. Marinate the fish with the paste and generous amount of mustard oil.
  5. Now place each fish piece with a green chilli in separate banana leaves and fold it to make small envelope and tie with a thread.
  6. Now this can be cooked in a convection oven or a tawa,pressure cook or can be steamed.
  7. I have steamed them for 15-20 mins in a steamer.
