ABOUT Tento Dal / Karwa dal RECIPE

This is a pure traditional and authentic bengali dish. Bengalies love to mix and match with lentils and veggies. This an old recipe and loved by all. Bitter dishes are always auspicious for us and we start our meal with any of the bitter dishes.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Matar Dal 250 gms.
  2. Bitter gourd 1 big cut into thin round pieces.
  3. Ridge gourd around 1 cup cut into cubes.
  4. Bay leaf and whole red chilli for tempering.
  5. Panch phoron ( fennel seeds, nigella seeds, fenugreek seeds and radhuni,).
  6. Salt and sugar to taste.
  7. Ginger paste 2 tablespoon.
  8. Ghee 2 tablespoon and oil 2 tablespoon.
  9. Slit green chilli 3 nos.

Instructions

  1. Soak the lentil for 30 mins then pressure cook it with salt and haldi.
  2. In a pan take oil and fry the bitter gourd pieces and keep it aside.
  3. In the same pan take ghee and add bay leaf and whole red chilli for tempering.
  4. In it add PANCH PHORON and wait until you get the aroma.
  5. Add the ginger paste and saute for some more time.
  6. In it add the ridge Gourd and mix it with Masala.
  7. Now add the boiled dal in it and cover with a lid. Add the bitter gourd pieces too now at this time.
  8. When the veggies are tender add little ghee from top and dish out.
  9. Slit green chilli can be added too.
