ABOUT Kannu Vecha Pathiri RECIPE

kannu vecha pathiri is a traditional malabar fried bread. in some places this is also known as Poo Pathiri, which means flower pathiri as it does resemble a flower and in some places it is known as Madakku Pathiri, which means folded pathiri.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1/2 cup wheat flour
  2. 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  3. salt to taste
  4. 1/2 tsp sugar
  5. 1 tsp ghee
  6. water as required
  7. oil for deep frying
  8. oil as required for layering

Instructions

  1. add wheat flour, all purpose flour, ghee, salt and sugar in a bowl and mix well
  2. add water and prepare a soft dough
  3. oil the dough and cover with a wet cloth
  4. keep aside for 15 minutes
  5. after 15 minutes, knead it again and divide into four portions
  6. take one portion and roll out into a round disc
  7. brush oil on top and fold one half into the middle
  8. then fold the other side overlapping the first one
  9. spread oil again on top and fold one side as given in picutre
  10. again fold the other half overlapping the first one
  11. with a rolling pin roll out into square
  12. spread oil and fold each corner of the square pathiri inside
  13. press it lightly and roll it out little
  14. make all in the same manner
  15. deep fry the prepared pathiris in hot oil, keep the folded side on top
  16. then slowly flip to the other side
  17. fry the pathiri until golden brown
  18. remove it to a paper napkin and serve
