ABOUT Thukkada RECIPE

Thukkada is a famous traditional snack of Tirunelveli. It is made of wheat flour spiced with chilli powder. It stays good for months.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup wheat flour
  2. 1 tsp red chilli powder
  3. salt to taste
  4. 1 tsp hot oil
  5. 1 pinch asafoetida
  6. water as needed
  7. oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. in a bowl take flour, salt, red chilli powder, asafoetida and oil, mix well
  2. then add water little by little and make a tight dough
  3. cover the dough and keep aside for 10 minutes
  4. after 10 minutes, knead the dough again and make equal sized balls
  5. dust with wheat flour and roll it like a thin chapati
  6. using a pizza cutter, cut the rolled chapati into diamonds
  7. heat oil in a kadai and fry them in batches till crispy and golden brown
  8. remove in a tissue and let it cool
  9. store or enjoy with tea or coffee
