Amritsari Chicken Masala is an authentic Punjabi dish, chicken is simply made in the unique amritsari gravy and flavored with fresh cream, butter and fresh tomatoes.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. chicken 500 gm
  2. For marination -
  3. ginger garlic paste 2tsp
  4. onion 1 chopped finely
  5. Sour curd 3tsp
  6. lemon juice 1 tsp
  7. coriander powder 1tsp
  8. cumin powder 1tsp
  9. Red chilli powder 1tsp
  10. Kashmiri chilli powder 1tsp
  11. vinegar 1 tsp
  12. salt to taste
  13. For sauce-
  14. butter 2tsp
  15. tomato 4
  16. Grated ginger 1tbsp
  17. coriander powder 1 tsp
  18. cumin powder 1tsp
  19. Red chilli powder 1tsp
  20. green chilli 2 slited
  21. sugar 1/2tsp
  22. cream 2tbsp
  23. salt to taste
  24. chopped coriander leaves for garnishing
  25. cream 1 tsp for garnishing


  1. marinate chicken with all the ingredients mentioned.
  2. mix well and keep for two hours or overnight.
  3. Blend the tomatoes to puree.
  4. Heat butter in a pan and cook the chicken pieces till tender and brown from all sides.
  5. Meanwhile heat butter in another pan.
  6. Add all the spices, grated ginger and saute.
  7. Add little water.
  8. Add salt, green chilli, tomato puree and sugar.
  9. Cook for few mins.
  10. Add this tomato gravy to the chicken and mix well.
  11. Cover the pan and let it cook for 5mins.
  12. Add cream and mix.
  13. Garnish with butter and chopped coriander leaves.
  14. Serve hot along with naan, rumali rotis, rice or Indian breads.
