Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Basmati rice – 150 gram
  2. Moong dal - 50 gram
  3. Asafetida (Hing)- 2 Pinches
  4. Salt - to taste ,Ghee – 1 tspn
  5. Water - 800 ml ( 4 glasses of water)
  6. For Seasoning:
  7. Whole black pepper – 1 tspn ,Cumin seeds – 1 tspn
  8. Chopped ginger – ½ tspn Chopped green chilli – ½ tspn
  9. Curry leaves –few, Ghee + Oil – 2 tbspn ,Cashew nuts – 2 tbpsn

Instructions

  1. Wash the yellow moong dal and drain it well. Dry roast the dal slightly brown, in a heavy bottomed pan.Soak the roasted dal and rice 10 minutes
  2. In a pressure cooker, add soaked rice, moong dal, salt,asafoetida, little ghee and water ..boil without closing the lid for about 10 minutes , Now close the lid and leave for 3 whistles.
  3. Traditional pongal is ready to serve with dal vada and chutney
