ABOUT Ukadiche Modak RECIPE

Modak is an Indian sweet popular in many parts of India. The sweet filling on the inside of a modak consists of freshly grated coconut and jaggery while the outer soft shell is made from rice flour or wheat flour.

Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. For stuffing
  2. ½ cup jaggery / gud
  3. 1 cup coconut grated
  4. ¼ tsp cardamom powder
  5. FOR MODAK DOUGH
  6. 1 cup Water
  7. ¼ tsp salt
  8. ½ tsp ghee / clarified butter
  9. 1 cup rice flour fine

Instructions

  1. 1.Firstly, prepare the stuffing from jaggery and coconut.
  2. 2.In another kadai boil 1 cup water, ¼ tsp salt and ½ tsp ghee.
  3. 3.Turn off the flame and add 1 cup fine rice flour.
  4. 4.Mix the flour well with water. do not worry if the dough is dry.
  5. 5.Cover and allow to rest for 3-5 minutes.
  6. 6.Now transfer the rice flour mixture into large mixing bowl.
  7. 7.When the flour is still hot, knead with your hand.
  8. 8.Sprinkle water if required to form a smooth and soft dough.
  9. 9.Furthermore, pinch a small lemon sized ball and flatten it.
  10. 10.With the help of both thumbs start pressing the edges and create a dent in centre.
  11. 11.Slowly press from edges till it forms a cup.
  12. 12.Start creating pleats with your index finger and thumb.
  13. 13.Now scoop a tbsp of prepared coconut-jaggery stuffing.
  14. 14.Get the pleats together to form a bundle.
  15. 15.Close the top by pinching and making it pointed.
  16. 16.Place the modak in steamer leaving gaps in between.
  17. 17.Cover and steam the modak for 10 minutes or till the shiny texture appears on them.
  18. 18.Finally, offer ukadiche modak to lord ganesha and celebrate ganesh chathurthi.
