ABOUT Akki roti RECIPE

Akki roti is one of the staple dish in Karnataka. Akki means rice in Kannada and roti means flat bread. So basically these are flat breads made with rice flour and mix veggies. These rotis are not rolled, but the dough is patted with hands on a plantain(banana) leaf . Or directly on a greased cool tawa.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Rice flour 1cup
  2. Dill leaves 1bunch
  3. Coriander leaves handful
  4. Curry leaves handful
  5. Coconut 4tbsp grated
  6. Carrot 1no grated
  7. Onion 1no chopped
  8. Green chilli 2nos chopped
  9. Ginger 1/2'' grated
  10. Cumin seeds 1tsp
  11. Salt as per taste
  12. Oil 2-3tsp
  13. Banana leaf 1-2no

Instructions

  1. Clean and chop all the leaves.
  2. Take a bowl mix all the ingredients except oil, then add salt and lukewarm water and make a dough.
  3. Cover the dough for 20min. Make balls out of the dough.
  4. Take one washed banana leaf, put one ball and spread it with your fingers to make a round roti as thin as possible.
  5. Make a hole at the center.
  6. Now heat a tawa, gently place the leaf upside down. Wait for a minute.
  7. Then slowly peel off the banana leaf without breaking the roti.
  8. Smear some oil over the rotis. Cook both the sides.
  9. When brown spots appear roti is done. Don't overcook else it will turn hard.
  10. Serve hot with any chutney or podi.
