ABOUT Dill Dal Fry RECIPE

This is a very simple and easy to make dish, perfect for a weeknight dinner.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Chana dal (Split chick peas): 1 cup
  2. Dill: 2 cups leaves only
  3. Coconut oil: 1 tsp
  4. Onion: one small chopped fine.
  5. Ginger: 1 inch piece chopped fine
  6. Garlic: 3 medium cloves chopped fine
  7. Green chillies: 2 chopped fine
  8. Haldi ( turmeric powder): 1/2 tsp
  9. Coriander powder: 1/2 tsp
  10. Cumin powder: 1/4 tsp
  11. Lemon juice: 1 tbsp
  12. Water : 2 cups
  13. Salt: 1/2 tsp
  14. Sugar: 1/4 tsp

Instructions

  1. Wash the dal and soak it in water for a minimum of 3-4 hours.
  2. Take a pot and cook the Chana dal with water. Once it boils, you will see scum appear on the top. Make sure to discard this scum.
  3. After 8-10 minutes, once the dal is half cooked, turn off the flame and keep it aside.
  4. Take a sauté pan and heat 1 tsp oil in it. Ince the oil is hot, add in the chopped garlic, ginger and sauté for a few seconds.
  5. Next add in the chopped onions, green chillies and sauté until the onions turn slightly golden brown in colour.
  6. Add the cumin and coriander powder, red chilli powder and sauté for another 30 seconds.
  7. Finally, add the cooked dal, salt, sugar, dill leaves and let it simmer and till the dal is tender. Make sure not to overcook the dal.
  8. Serve hot with rice or roti as desired.
