ABOUT Bread Upma RECIPE

2 days old bread or the edge slices of bread in a loaf that are not so soft can be used to make this pillowy upma.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Bread slices - 6-8
  2. Onion - 1 small
  3. Green chillies - 1-2
  4. Curry leaves - a few sprigs
  5. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  6. Urad dal (without skin) - 1-2 tsp
  7. Chana dal - 1 tsp
  8. Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  9. OIl - 2-3 tbsps

Instructions

  1. Peel wash and chop the onions finely.
  2. Wash and chop the green chillies.
  3. In a pan heat up oil and add the mustard seeds. Once that splutters add the urad and chana dal.
  4. Add the chopped onions, green chillies, curry leaves to this once the urad and chana dal have turned golden in colour.
  5. While the onions are sauteing, roughly tear the bread slices and blend it in a blender using the dry blade. The thick slices turn into this soft pillowy bread crumbs.
  6. When the onions turn a little translucent add the turmeric powder. Stir well.
  7. Add the bread crumbs and salt and mix. Saute for a couple of minutes.
  8. Serve hot.
