  • 2 cups chickpeas soaked overnight
  • 2 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3-5 cloves garlic ( medium thick)
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1½ tsp salt or as per taste
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp red chilli powder or degi mirch
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ¼th tsp soda-bi-carb( optional)
  • ½ cup coriander leaves chopped or parsley chopped.
  • ½ tsp. green chilies chopped (optional)
  • Canola oil / Any vegetable oil for frying.

How to make Falafel

  1. Soak the chick peas overnight .
  2. Drain the water in the morning and put these straight into the food processor.
  3. Add all the rest of the ingredients and grind them together.
  4. Remember you need to keep the mixture a little grainy ,don’t over grind or itll turn into hummus.
  5. Transfer the mixture into a bowl with a lid.
  6. Refrigerate this for atleast 2 hours. I suggest if you have to make these in the evening then prepare the mixture in the afternoon,so there is no rush and it can rest in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
  7. After 2 hour, Mix soda bicarb into the mixture dissolved in 1tbsp water( this step is optional as this is tho make the balls a bit fluffy) .Now,heat oil in a skillet or pan only upto half the height of the falafel ball.Fry them in hot oil t
  8. Serve hot with pita bread and hummus with some salad.
