Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 8 long green chillies
  2. 1 1/ 2 cup gram flour / besan
  3. 1/4 cup rice flour
  4. 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  5. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  6. 2 pinches of Asafoetida
  7. 1/4 tsp of baking soda
  8. 1/4 tsp Fennel seeds crushed
  9. Salt
  10. Water as needed
  11. Oil for frying
  12. Ingredients for potato masala
  13. 2 boiled potatoes mashed
  14. 1 onion chopped
  15. Salt
  16. 1/4 tsp Chaat masala
  17. Chopped Coriander
  18. 1 green chilli chopped


  1. For potato masala mix all the ingredients with mashed potatoes and keep aside.
  2. Wash the chillies and slit in the middle lengthwise.
  3. Remove all the seeds and fill it with potato masala, repeat with all the chillies .
  4. In a wide bowl put gram flour ,rice flour ,salt ,chilli powder , baking soda, chilli powder , carrom seeds, crushed fennel seeds and mix well.
  5. Make a batter adding enough water and whisk until you get a smooth batter ( batter should be little thick ).
  6. Heat the oil in deep pan, once the oil is hot enough , dip the stuffed chillies in the batter and gently drop it in the hot oil.
  7. Simmer the flame to medium and fry the bajjis till it turns nice golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oil and drain on a paper napkin.
  9. Serve hot with green chutney / tomato ketchup.
