This tangy tomato chaat is authentic dish .This is spicy and chatpati.Sugar chashni is also used to balance the taste.No onion and garlic is used. Though the process of making of this chaat is a lenghthy one but prior preparation can make it easier. Effort is worth the end result.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Tomato 7 Blanched
  2. Raw Tomato paste of 2 tomatoes
  3. Red chillies 6
  4. Poppy seeds 1 tbsp
  5. Potato 7
  6. Khoya 1 tbsp
  7. Ghee 1 tbsp
  8. Cashewnuts chopped 10
  9. Phool makhana 12 chopped
  10. Kishmish 12
  11. Ginger paste 1 tbsp
  12. Black pepper powder 1/2 tsp
  13. Garam masala powder 1 tsp
  14. Dhaniya powder 1 tsp
  15. Chopped Green Chillies 2
  16. Jeera powder 1 tsp
  17. Salt 1 tsp
  18. Black salt 1/2 tsp
  19. Sugar 1/2 cup
  20. Water 1 cup
  21. Fresh coriander chopped 2 tbsp
  22. Maida 1 cup
  23. oil 2 tbsp
  24. Water 1 cup
  25. Oil for fying namakpare

Instructions

  1. Blanch tomatoes in boiling water for 10 minutes.Peel them and make a puree.
  2. Cut 2 fresh tomatoes and grind them in a mixer .
  3. Soak red chillies and poppy seeds in 1/2 cup of water for half an hour. Make its paste.
  4. Knead Maida with oil ,salt and water.Make small namkpare by frying them in oil.
  5. Boil sugar and water and make chashni .Keep aside.
  6. Boil potatoes .Peel and mash them.Add salt,coriander,garam masala powder,cumin powder ,dhania powder and green chilies
  7. Mix well and make balls and flatten them.
  8. Fry these potato balls or tikkis on non stick pan.
  9. To make tomato curry heat ghee in a kadhai preferably of iron.Put poppy seeds and chilli paste. Stir well.Add ginger paste.Add chopped makhana ,kishmish and cashewnuts.Fry them well.Add garam masala ,coriander powder and salt to taste.
  10. Add blanched pureed tomatoes.Cook well till it reduces somewhat.
  11. Tomato curry is ready.
  12. Before serving put potato tikkis with fresh tomato puree.Cook both of them together for two minutes.
  13. For assembling and serving put mashed potato in a plate then put tomato curry.Pour 2 tsp chashni and sprinkle lime juice.Add chaat masala and jeera powder.Put namakpare above all.
  14. Serve this chatpati chaat hot.
