Swedish Cinnamon Buns/Kanelbullar

Ingredients to make Swedish Cinnamon Buns/Kanelbullar

  • 1.5 cups flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled
  • 1/2 cup or more lukewarm milk
  • For Filling
  • 2.5 tbsp soft unsalted butter
  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp cinnamon
  • Glazing
  • 1 beaten egg
  • Granulated sugar as required to sprinkle

How to make Swedish Cinnamon Buns/Kanelbullar

  1. IN A BOWL, ADD FLOUR, YEAST, CARDAMOM, SUGAR AND SALT. GENTLY MIX WELL
  2. ADD BUTTER AND LUKEWARM MILK. MIX WELL. KNEAD TO FORM SOFT DOUGH
  3. COVER AND REST DOUGH IN WARM PLACE FOR 2 HOURS
  4. MIX BUTTER , CINNAMON AND SUGAR IN A BOWL. KEEP IT ASIDE
  5. DUST SURFACE WITH FLOUR. PLACE DOUGH AND SPRINKLE FLOUR ON TOP. DEFLATE DOUGH AND KNEAD FOR 3 MIN
  6. ROLL DOUGH INTO SLIGHTLY THIN RECTANGLE
  7. ADD CINNAMON FILLING ON ONE HALF OF THE RECTANGLE. SPREAD EVENLY
  8. FOLD DOUGH AND SEAL EDGES WITH WATER
  9. CUT DOUGH INTO THIN STRIPS
  10. TWIST EACH STRAND , SLIGHTLY STRETCHING WHILE TWISTING IT
  11. COIL STRAND AROUND FINGER TWICE, THEN OVER THE TOP. COIL IT WITHIN AND TUCK LOOSE END AT BOTTOM
  12. PLACE ROLLED BUNS OVER PREPARED BAKING TRAY LEAVING GAP BETWEEN THEM. COVER AND REST FOR 1 HOUR
  13. GLAZE TOP WITH EGG WASH
  14. SPRINKLE GRANULATED SUGAR ON TOP
  15. BAKE FOR 15-20 MINUTES UNTIL GOLDEN BROWN IN PREHEATED OVEN AT 180
  16. COOL ON TRAY FOR 10 MINUTES
  17. SERVE WARM WITH CUP OF COFFEE
