ABOUT Tomato Shorba RECIPE

Tomato Shorba is an Indian soup of tomatoes seasoned with Indian spices.Its to be done with very ripe but not sour tomatoes and cooked with aromatic Indian spices as bay leaves,garam masala cummin etc .A great starter or side dish .

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 3-4 ripe tomatoes as per size ,if smsll take 4 else 3 big
  2. 1/2 tspn ginger garlic paste
  3. one green chilli
  4. few corriander leaves
  5. salt to taste
  6. 1/8th teaspoon turmeric( haldi)
  7. half teaspoon cummin(jeera)
  8. one fourth teaspoon Garam masala
  9. half teaspoon pepper
  10. half teaspoon corriander (Dhaniya) powder
  11. 1/4th tspn red chilli powder
  12. half teaspoon sugar
  13. 1-2small bay leaves (tejpatta)
  14. 2 cups vegetable stock or water in which tomatoes r boiled use that


  1. boil 3 tomatoes in pressure. Cooker
  2. peel skin of tomatoes when cooled , keep water for use
  3. Puree the tomatoes in a blender with coriander,green chilli(optional)
  4. Take pan ,heat oil and add Cummins to splutter
  5. Add ginger garlic paste stir well to remove raw smell
  6. add tomato puree made and stir cook 3-4 minutes
  7. Add bay leaf here and water from boiled tomatoes
  8. simmer 3-4 minutes
  9. Add the seasoning now to the shorba
  10. Mix well,add1/2;tspn sugar ,stir well
  11. Add salt now mix well,stirring well
  12. Simmer 1-2. Minutes
  13. As it Cumming to desired consistency put off flame
  14. Serve hot with or before your meals
