ABOUT Rasam RECIPE

A popular South Indian soup which is prepared with vegetables, a tangy taste from tamarind and complimented with a various number of spiced. This hearty dish is also enjoyed with rice.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 2 Tomatoes chopped
  2. 4 cups water
  3. 1 cup Tamarind water
  4. 8-10 Garlic chopped
  5. 5-6 Dry red chilies
  6. 4 tbspVegetable oil
  7. 4 tsp Coriander leaves chopped
  8. 4 tsp Cumin seeds
  9. 3-4 tsp Black pepper
  10. 2 tsp Mustard seed
  11. 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  12. 1 tsp Asafoetida/Hing
  13. 10-15 Curry leaves
  14. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Grind cumin seeds, garlic and black pepper into a semi coarse powder.
  2. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, once it splutters, add dry red chilles, hing and curry leaves on low flame.
  3. Add tomatoes and stir fry until the tomatoes become soft.
  4. Now add the semi coarse powder along with turmeric powder. Stir well.
  5. Pour the tamarind water with salt and stir.Leave it to boil.
  6. Remove from heat and add coriander leaves, stir well.

Excellent. Would also suggest to grind two TSP of coriander seeds also along with pepper and garlic for enhanced flavour.
