Ingredients to make Gulab Jamun

  • 1 cup Milk powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp maida
  • 1 tbsp yoghurt
  • 1tsp ghee , and little more for greasing
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • oil for frying
  • 1&1/2 cups sugar
  • 1&1/2 cups water
  • cardamom pods 3
  • Rose water 2 tsp
  • 3-4 drops of lemon juice

How to make Gulab Jamun

  1. Heat oil in a kadai , on low flame.
  2. In a bowl, add milk powder, maida, and baking powder. Mix everything well.
  3. Beat an egg, and add in the centre of the milk powder. Add ghee , yoghurt and gently mix using a spoon.... no need to knead.
  4. Leave for 2 mins.
  5. Grease your palms and make small balls and keep on the greased plates.
  6. When all the balls are ready, add into hot oil but on low flame as milk powder is used, it tends to burn quickly. Carefully fry till light golden, remove on a plate and let cool.
  7. In a saucepan prepare sugar syrup. Add sugar and water, let it boil for 5 mins. Add crushed cardamom pods , rose water, then when the syrup boils well add lemon juice and turn off the flame.
  8. When the jamuns are completely cooled, add in to hot syrup, and cook for 3 minutes turn off flame and let it rest.
  9. When it is warm serve. Enjoy delicious, soft, tasty, easy Gulab Jamuns.

My Tip:

Do not add hot jamuns into syrup, it will get wrinkles. Adding lemon into syrup helps to avoid crystallization of sugar.
