This is my grand mothers recipe . yummy accompaniment for Idly and dosa

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. 1 cup Black sesame seeds
  2. 1/2 cup white lentils / urad dal
  3. 10-12 Red chillies
  4. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  5. salt to taste
  6. 1/2 tsp asafoetida
  7. 2 sprigs of curry leaves
  8. 2 piece of jaggery


  1. Heat a pan and dry roast sesame seeds in medium flame till it splutters with a nice aroma.
  2. Dry roast white lentils / urad dal till it turns golden colour.
  3. Fry chillies,cumin seeds , curry leaves separately.
  4. Don't Over fry the ingredients otherwise it will taste bitter.
  5. Once cooled first grind the chilli with salt in a mixie.
  6. Now add all the ingredients and grind it to a coarse powder.
  7. Store it in air tight container
  8. Tastes good mixed with gingely / sesame oil.
  9. Yummy side dish for idly and dosa.
