ABOUT Spicy curd rice ( Tadka dahi chawal) RECIPE

Curd Rice is very popular dish in South part of India. It is also known as Curd rice, yogurt rice, Dahi kaddi, Dahi chawal etc. It is prepared with steamed rice mixed with curds and then tampered with urad dal mustard seeds, green chillies ,curry leaves, spice powder etc. Curd Rice is often cooked in my kitchen and I love it to have with fish/potato/cauliflower fry. In some families eating Curd Rice is a tradition at the end of lunch or dinner as this improves the digestion. My personal advice is to avoid curd rice when you have cold and cough as it triggers mucus formation and can worsen the cold.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1/4 cup oil
  2. 4 to 5 whole small Red chilli
  3. 1 tsp mustard seeds
  4. 1 Tsp cumin seed
  5. 1 tbsp small Coriander seed (optional)
  6. 2 tbsp Urad Dal
  7. 5 to 6 big Garlic pods roughly chopped
  8. 1 inch ginger
  9. Few Curry leaves finely chopped
  10. 2 green chilly
  11. 1 tsp Turmeric
  12. 2 tbsp Maggie masala powder
  13. 2 small onion
  14. Salt to taste
  15. Bunch of Coriander leaves
  16. Cooked rice
  17. 3 cups yogurt

Instructions

  1. Pressure cook 1 cup rice. Open lid once done and let it cool.
  2. In wok heat 1/4 cup oil. saute 4 to 5 whole small red chilly, 1 tsp Mustard Seeds,1 tsp Cumin seed, 1 tbsp small Coriander seed (optional),2 tbsp Urad dal for a minute.
  3. Add 5 to 6 big Garlic pods roughly chopped and saute for a minute.
  4. Add1 inch Ginger and Few Curry leaves finely chopped and saute well.
  5. Add 2 Green chilly.
  6. Add 1 tsp turmeric powder.
  7. Add 2 tbsp maggie magic masala and saute till raw smell goes.
  8. Add 2 small diced Onion and saute for a minute. Your spicy tadka is ready
  9. Take 3 cups of yogurt and mix well.
  10. Add cooked rice in yogurt mixture.
  11. Pour tadka and salt to taste in the bowl
  12. Add coriander leaves and mix well.
  13. Serve hot with any kind of fry.
