Thattai is a famous south indian snacks , which is very crispy and the best for kitty party ,

Ingredients to make Thattai

  • 1 cup maida
  • 1/2 cup rice flour
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp asafetida powder
  • A pinch of baking soda
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds or kala jeera
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • A sprig of curry leaves
  • 1 tsp soaked Bengal gram ( chana dal )
  • oil for frying
  • water as per requirement for making dough

How to make Thattai

  1. Take maida , rice flour , baking soda , asafetida powder , chili powder , salt in a bowl
  2. Pour water and knead to make a smooth dough
  3. Add 1 tsp oil to the dough and knead well again
  4. Add curry leaves and soaked Bengal gram and knead well
  5. Lastly add sesame seeds or kala jeera and mix well and set aside for half an hour
  6. Now roll the dough lengthwise into a long cylinder
  7. Roll and shape little dough into a lemon size ball
  8. Repeat the process for the entire dough
  9. Toss a dough ball in little oil or maida and then flatten it to a thin Thattai using rolling pin
  10. Flatten the remaining dough balls into Thattai
  11. Now heat enough oil in a deep pan , fry Thattais one by one or a few at a time , turning over both sides
  12. Remove when the Thattais are crispy
