Tapioca is one of the favorite traditional foods in Kerala. Its prepared in various forms and served with a fish curry, which is really tasty.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Kappa/Tapioca : 1 kg
  2. Salt: As Needed
  3. Water To Boil: As Needed
  4. Coconut: 1 cup
  5. Garlic: 4 cloves
  6. Green Chilies: 3
  7. Turmeric Powder: 1/2 tsp
  8. Small onion: 4
  9. Coconut Oil: 1 tbsp
  10. Mustard Seeds: 1/2 tsp
  11. Mustard Seeds: 1/2 tsp
  12. Kashmiri Chilies: 3
  13. Curry Leaves: 10 leaves


  1. Chop kappa/Tapioca into a pan and wash
  2. Put the kappa into a pressure cooker and fill with water. Add salt.
  3. Cook for 3 to 4 whistles.Grind grated coconut, turmeric, onion, garlic, and green chilies in a mixer.
  4. Now open cooker and drain the water and then mash kappa.Add in the ground coconut mix and mix well.
  5. Heat a pan add coconut oil and add in mustard seeds, whole red chillies, and curry leaves. Pour this over the mashed kappa and mix well.
  6. Serve hot with fish curry or chutney
