ABOUT Onion Uttapam RECIPE

Onion Uttapam is a delightful breakfast recipe which is loved by people of all age groups. It is a popular South Indian recipe and a very healthy dish. Onion Uttapam tastes best when served with different types of chutneys and sambhar.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 80 grams urad dal /split black gram
  2. 2 finely chopped green chillies
  3. 1/2 inch finely chopped ginger
  4. 2 cup finely chopped onions
  5. 1 tablespoon refined oil
  6. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  7. 250 grams idli rice

Instructions

  1. soak the dal and rice in water, separately, for around 2-3 hours.
  2. Once done, drain the excess water.
  3. Now add the dal and rice in separate blenders and grind them to a smooth batter.
  4. Transfer both dal and rice batter in a large bowl and add enough salt.
  5. Mix well and keep aside.
  6. Now heat little oil in a pan over medium flame.
  7. Add onions in it and saute them till they turn slightly pinkish in colour.
  8. Then add ginger and green chillies. Saute for another minute.
  9. Once done, add this mixture to the batter and mix well.
  10. Heat a tawa over medium flame and pour a ladleful of the batter on the tawa.
  11. Spread the batter in a circular motion to a thick uttapam.
  12. Apply oil around the edges of the uttapam and cook on both sides.
  13. Once the uttapam is properly cooked, transfer it to a serving plate and pair it with hot bowl of sambhar and different types of chutneys.
