About Homemade Wholewheat Flax Bread – Eggless & Milkless Recipe

Rustic aroma and flavor of homemade bread!! Ah! what else is better than a freshly baked and a healthier bread? A small bite after dipping it into filtered coffee or hot tea is enough on a lazy day. Unlike refined flour bread , I made it with wholewheat flour & Flax seeds powder.

Ingredients to make Homemade Wholewheat Flax Bread – Eggless & Milkless

  • Whole wheat flour – 4 cups
  • Dry yeast – 2 tablespoons
  • sugar powder – 2 tablespoons
  • salt – 1 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil – 1 tablespoon
  • Flax seeds powder – 1 tablespoon
  • Luke warm water – As needed
  • clarified butter/Vegetable ghee – For greasing

How to make Homemade Wholewheat Flax Bread – Eggless & Milkless

  1. Arrange the ingredients.
  2. Take 1 teaspoon of sugar powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt into a bowl. Pour little amount of luke warm water to it. Dissolve them. Add 2 tablespoons of dry yeast to it. Mix it properly to avoid lumps. Allow it to rest for 10 minutes.
  3. Similarly , take another bowl. Add flax seeds powder . Pour luke warm water into it.Mix it well to prevent lumps. Soak it for 10 minutes.
  4. Take a large vessel. Add wholewheat flour,remaining sugar powder and salt to it. Mix it well without adding water . Set it aside.
  5. After a span of 10 minutes , add the soaked flax seeds powder & bloomed yeast mix to the flour. By pouring little amount of luke warm water make a soft dough.
  6. Spread oil over a plank.
  7. Transfer the prepared dough onto the plank.
  8. Knead it for 10 to 15 minutes using pull and stretch method.
  9. Once it turns smooth in texture ,transfer it to an oil greased vessel.
  10. Apply oil onto the smooth dough and cover this with a cling film/plastic cover. Keep it in a warm place for an hour.
  11. After an hour, punch the dough using your fingers and transfer it onto the dusted (flour) base.
  12. Knead it for 2 minutes. By using a rolling pin, flatten the dough as shown in the below image.
  13. By rolling from one end, roll it tightly into a log. Adjust from top and bottom ends to form a log as shown below. See that the size of log is such that it conveniently fits into your bread loaf pan.
  14. Now carefully place the log in the greased loaf pan. Press it slightly to fit evenly .
  15. Cover it with a damped cloth. Allow it to rise, so keep the pan aside for 40 minutes.
  16. After 40 minutes , brush the dough with vegetable ghee . It looks as shown below
  17. In the meanwhile, preheat the oven in convection mode for 5 minutes at 200° C.
  18. Place the loaf pan into the preheated oven and bake it for 25 to 30 minutes at 180°C.*The temperature may vary so set it accordingly.*
  19. Remove the bread from the oven. Allow it to cool for 10 minutes.
  20. Demould it carefully by tapping from the bottom.
  21. Allow it to cool completely atleast for 3 hours before making slices. Soft and fluffy wholewheat flax bread is ready.
  22. It can also be served as a sandwich by stuffing it with homemade dip and veggies.
