Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Flour 2 and a half cups
  2. salt 1/3 teaspoon
  3. Milk powder 3 teaspoons
  4. 1 Egg yolk
  5. Soyabean oil 2 teaspoons
  6. Butter 2 teaspoons
  7. Lukewarm milk half cup + more if needed while kneading the dough
  8. Sugar 2 teaspoons
  9. Dry yeast 2 teaspoons
  10. Black food colouring

Instructions

  1. In a bowl take 1/2 a cup of warm milk. To this add the yeast and the sugar and stir. Let it sit for 10 minutes or until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a mixing bowl mix together the flour, salt and milk powder.
  3. To the flour, add the egg yolk and the oil. Mix properly.
  4. To this, add the milk with yeast and knead this until you get a soft dough. Knead it on a clean surface for at least 15 minutes. Add more lukewarm milk if needed. Finally, add the soft butter and knead again. The dough should be soft and smooth.
  5. Take a little portion of this dough in another bowl, add black food colouring and mix thoroughly.
  6. Grease both of the bowls with oil. Place the doughs in the middle and brush some more oil on the surfaces. Now cover both of the bowls with cling wrap and let those rest for two hours in a dark, warm spot.
  7. After two hours the doughs will double in size. Punch the white dough to release the air and knead it again for a few minutes.
  8. Grease a square shaped baking tin with oil and line it with butter paper. Make smooth, round, ball shapes with the white dough and place those in the baking tin.
  9. Knead the black dough for a few minutes. Make the eyes of the pandas with the dough and stick it on the white dough balls.
  10. Similarly, make the nose and ears too and stick those as well. Make the eyeballs with white dough.
  11. Cover this with a damp cloth and let it rise for the second time for 40 minutes.
  12. In a big pot, evenly spread a cup of salt and place a metal stand inside it. You can also place a small bowl upside down. Cover this pot and preheat this on medium flame for 10 minutes.
  13. Place the baking tin on the stand, cover the pot and bake it on medium flame for 5 minutes and on low flame for 30 minutes.
  14. Let it cool and enjoy it with your family. You can wrap this with plastic wrap and store it in the fridge as well.
