ABOUT Ricotta Cheese Fritters with homemade Marinara Sauce RECIPE

For the fritters-
Egg- 1; beaten
Ricotta cheese- 400 grams
Grated nutmeg- ¼ teaspoon
Chilli flakes- ½ teaspoon
Lemon zest- ½ teaspoon
Parmesan cheese- 50 grams
Plain flour- 1 tablespoon
Olive oil- 1 ½ tablespoons
Salt and pepper to taste
For marinara sauce-
Tomato puree- 1 ½ cups
Garlic cloves- 2-3; finely chopped
Red chilli flakes- ½ teaspoon
Basil leaves- 6-7
Dried oregano- ¼ teaspoon
Olive oil- 2 tablespoons
Salt and Pepper- to taste
Sugar- ¼ teaspoon
Instructions
For marinara sauce-
Add the olive oil to a pan and allow to warm. Once warm, add the chopped garlic and fry it for a few seconds and allow it to sizzle but do not let it brown.
Add the tomato puree, red chilli flakes, basil, oregano, a pinch of salt, pepper and allow it to simmer for about 10-15 minutes until the sauce has thickened and the oil is seen on the surface.
Taste it and adjust the salt and pepper accordingly.
Remove from the heat and allow it to cool a little. Meanwhile make the fritters.
For ricotta fritters-
Add the ricotta cheese to a bowl and to it and add all the other ingredients except olive oil, salt and pepper and mix well. Add a pinch of salt and pepper and give the mixture a taste to check for salt and pepper.
If not, adjust it accordingly. Divide the mixture into 8 parts and roll into balls. Flatten it to get even sized fritters.
Add the olive oil to a skillet and allow it to become hot. Pan fry the fritters until golden brown on both sides. Use two spatulas for easy handling. Serve the fritters with the marinara sauce.
