ABOUT SOOJI/ RAVA UPMA RECIPE

Upma is a traditional south Indian breakfast dish made from rava. It is simple, easy to make . It can be searved with chutney and sambher.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup Rava / Sooji (Semolina)
  2. 1 inch Ginger chopped
  3. 1 chopped Onion
  4. 3 Green Chillies
  5. 1 Potato chopped
  6. 1 Capsicum chopped
  7. 1 Carrot chopped
  8. 1/4 cup Green Peas frozen or fresh
  9. 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  10. 1 tsp Urad Dal
  11. 1 tsp Channa Dal
  12. 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  13. Chili powder to taste (optional)
  14. 2 tbsp Oil
  15. Few curry leaves
  16. Finely chopped coriander leaves
  17. Salt to taste
  18. Lemon juice to taste
  19. 1 tbsp Ghee

Instructions

  1. Heat 1tbsp. pure ghee / unsalted butter and fry rava on a moderate heat, stirring constantly to light brown color and set aside.
  2. Now heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and allow them to splatter.
  3. Add the channa & urad dal & curry leaves to it and fry till they turn red.
  4. Add onion, ginger and green chilies. Sauté for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add all the vegetables, turmeric & chili powder, and salt to taste.
  6. Now add 3 cups of water and cover the pan and allow it to simmer on low heat until the vegetables are done.
  7. Add the fried rava to it stirring constantly till it becomes little thick.
  8. Take off from the heat and add lemon juice and garnish with coriander
  9. Serve hot.
