Scallion flavored steamed bun is a typical breakfast dish from the Orient!

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. All purpose Flour-2 cups
  2. Instant Yeast- 1 teaspoon
  3. Sugar- 1 teaspoon
  4. Baking powder- 1 teaspoon
  5. Oil- 2 tablespoons
  6. Salt to taste
  7. Luke warm water- 1 - 1 1/4 cups
  8. Finely chopped spring onion greens
  9. Sesame seed
  10. Sesame Oil

Instructions

  1. Take the flour and salt in a bowl. Add yeast, sugar,baking powder,oil . Give it a mix and add water little by little
  2. Knead to a smooth,elastic dough. When you start kneading it will be sticky,but there is no need to add more flour. Keep kneading and the texture will change.
  3. Once you have kneaded it well, keep in an oiled bowl, covered, till it rises double in volume. Mine rose in an hour! Once the dough has risen double, punch out the air.
  4. Knead once more and Take a golf sized ball of the dough and place it on a work space dusted with flour.
  5. Roll out into a thin circle. Brush a little oil and spread some spring onion greens and sesame seeds on it.
  6. Mark long strips with a knife leaving the top part portion intact .
  7. Bring the ends together and roll into a circle to form a flower shape and tuck in the ends so that the the flower shape remains intact.
  8. Place the hua juan in a steamer[grease the plates first before placing them] and steam for 10-12 minutes or till the surface is glossy. Over cooking will spoil the texture of the hua juan
  9. Serve hot with chili sauce and Soy dipping sauce.
