Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 2 cup idli rice
  2. 1 cup white urad dal
  3. salt as per test
  4. water as require
  5. For Seasoning
  6. 1 tsp oil
  7. 1 tsp mustard seed
  8. 2 green chillis
  9. 1 tsp crushed black pepper
  10. 1/2 tsp cumun seeds
  11. 1 Pinch asafetida
  12. Corriender
  13. 1 tsp cashew nuts


  1. Soak urad dal and rice separately for 3-4 hrs
  2. Grind urad dal until it becomes light and fluffy, grind rice also. Mix both mixture and keep in warm place for fermentation for 8-10 hrs. ( Time depends on season also)
  3. Now we prepare seasoning, heat oil, add mustard seed and cummin seeds, when these start spulet add green chillies, ginger powder asafetida and corriender leaves
  4. Add this seasoning to batter. Mix well
  5. Now brush the wooden bowls, half fill with batter, steam these bowls in steamer for 10-12 min (I use microwave for 4 min)
  6. Allow it to cool little bit . Cut it your desire shap, serve hot with sambhar or coconut chatni
