ABOUT Masala Khichdi RECIPE

This is traditional one pot breakfast in all season.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup rice washed and drained
  2. 1/2 cup toovardal dal washed and drained
  3. 1/2 cup fresh toovardal lilva
  4. 2 tbsp ghee
  5. 1 onion sliced
  6. 1 tomato sliced
  7. 2 sticks dalchini
  8. 2 cloves
  9. Salt to taste
  10. 2 tbsp ginger garlic green chilli pasye
  11. 1 tsp garam masala/khichdi masala
  12. 1 tsp jeera
  13. For garnish fresh coriander leaves
  14. 1/2 tsp haldi powder
  15. 1 tsp red chilli powder
  16. 1 tsp Shania jieera powder


  1. Heat the ghee in a pressure cooker and add the cinnamon and cloves and ginger garlic paste and saute for a medium flame for 30 seconds.
  2. Add onion and saute tiil light brown colour.
  3. Add tomato, fresh toovar and saute for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add rice and dal mixture and saute on a medium flame for 2 more minutes.
  5. Add remaining masala and mix well.
  6. Add approximate 3 cups of water and mix gently .
  7. Once the mixture comes to boil close the lid and cook it on low flame for three whistles.
  8. Serve with a topping of ghee and serve with curd.
  9. Garnish with coriander leaves.
