A delicious Burger made from Indian Yam, raw banana and bottle gourd. The flavors will match with that of a crispy chicken burger. A delight for vegetarians. A super healthy Meal. An excellent source of energy with multiple nutrients, a very good option to serve to your little one too .It’s a power packed meal with mouthwatering flavors.

Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. Yam/elephant foot yam/Jhimi kand 250 gms
  2. 2 raw bananas, small
  3. Grated bottle gourd 1/4 cup
  4. 1/2 Onion, chopped
  5. Chana dal 1 cup
  6. garlic cloves 10
  7. ginger paste 2 tsp
  8. water 1/2 cup
  9. Green capsicum 4 tbsp
  10. Red capsicum 2 tbsp
  11. Yellow capsicum 2 tbsp
  12. salt to taste
  13. Corn flour 2-3 tbsp
  14. coriander powder 2 tsp
  15. Red chilli powder (degi mirch) 1 tsp
  16. oil to fry
  17. Dressing:
  18. Mayonnaise/burger mayonnaise 1/2 cup
  19. Red capsicum 2 tbsp
  20. Green capsicum 2 tbsp
  21. Chopped onion 2 tbsp
  22. garlic paste/powder 1/2 tsp
  23. olive oil 1 tsp
  24. Black pepper a pinch or two
  25. Lettuce leaves to stuff
  26. tomato slices 4
  27. mustard sauce and tomato ketchup
  28. Cheese slices (optional)
  29. Burger buns a few


  1. How to prepare Burger (patty): De-skin the yam, wash and cube them nicely. Deskin the bananas and slice them as well. Wash the chana dal. Crush the garlic cloves in a mortar-pestle.
  2. Now in a pressure cooker, add the yam, chana dal, raw banana, garlic, 1/2 tsp, salt, ginger and 1/2 cup water and pressure cook on high for one whistle and then simmer the flame, and cook till another two whistles.
  3. Let it cool and then crush to a paste with a potato masher.
  4. Grate the bottle gourd and squeeze out all the water nicely. You may use a muslin cloth to squeeze the Gheeya/Bottle gourd, as no water should remain. Add this to your yam mixture and mash again to mix.
  5. Now, add all the spices and rest of the vegetables-green, yellow and red capsicum and onion, all finely chopped.
  6. Add the corn flour and make patties.
  7. Heat oil in a shallow pan and fry till done.
  8. Mayonnaise Dressing: Chop all the vegetables and onion. Grate the garlic. Add this to the mayonnaise along with a pinch of black pepper and some olive oil. Mix well.
  9. Make the Burger Ready: Slice the tomatoes, shred the lettuce. Now, on the burger bun lower half, put the lettuce. (Cheese slice is optional). Spread the mayonnaise mixture and top it with 2-3 slices of tomatoes.
  10. Now put the patty and spread the mustard sauce and tomato sauce on top.
