String Hopper's,Sodhi and coconut milk is a Traditional south Indian Breakfast from a city called Thirunelveli in Tamilnadu. This dish is mainly originated from Sri Lanka. They consume with Sambhal as a accompaniment with String Hopper's. A healthy and comfort meal for all ages.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For making Ragi and rice string hoppers
  2. Ragi flour 1 cup
  3. Rice flour 1 cup
  4. Cumin powder 1/ 4 teaspoon
  5. Oil 2 teaspoon
  6. Water 6 cups
  7. Salt 1/2 teaspoon
  8. For Sodhi
  9. coconut 1 (extract first milk and second and keep aside)
  10. Beans 1/2 cup chopped
  11. Peas 1 / 4 cup
  12. carrot 1/4 Cup chopped
  13. Potato 1 chopped
  14. cumin powder 1/4 teaspoon
  15. green chillies 3
  16. Ginger 1 by 4 inch piece
  17. mustard seeds 1 /4 teaspoon
  18. cumin seeds 1 / 4 teaspoon
  19. Oil 1 teaspoon
  20. Curry leaves 2 spring
  21. Lemon 1/2
  22. For coconut milk
  23. coconut 1
  24. Cardamom 4
  25. sugar or Palm sugar to taste

Instructions

  1. Method to prepare string hoppers
  2. Boil 3 cups of water with salt
  3. Add cumin powder to the Ragi flour and 4 boiling water and mix well till stiff of malleable dough
  4. Grease oil in the press and add dough to it.
  5. Press the dough and steam it for 8 to 10 minutes
  6. follow the same method with rice flour.
  7. well steamed Ragi and rice string hoppers are ready
  8. For making vegetable Sodhi
  9. Boil all the chopped vegetables together
  10. In a pan and oil on a medium heat
  11. Add mustard seed, jeera and curry leaves. Let it splutter
  12. Add boiled vegetables and add second pressed coconut milk
  13. Let it boil for 2 minutes
  14. Now add first pressed coconut milk and immediately switch off the flame
  15. Add a dash of lemon juice to it.
  16. vegetable Sodhi is ready
  17. Method to extract coconut milk
  18. Grate coconut and add water and press the milk for 2 times.
  19. Separate first milk and second milk separately.
  20. Mix the coconut milk together with cardamom and sugar or palm sugar well.
  21. coconut milk is ready to consume with String Hopper's
