This is a very tasty coconut chutney normally prepared in hotels.but now we can make it at home and enjoy by knowing the secret method of making the the perfect coconut chutney. Very delicious and goes very well with doasas and idlis or any south indian breakfast .

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup grated coconut
  2. one fourth cup roasted gram dal
  3. 12 curry leaves
  4. one or two green chillies
  5. 1/4 tsp sugar
  6. one teaspoon oil
  7. Salt to taste
  8. To temper:
  9. Mustard seeds half teaspoon
  10. urad dal half teaspoon
  11. chana dal half teaspoon


  1. Heat a teaspoon oil in a small saucepan and roast the curry leaves till crisp
  2. add the grated coconut, gram dal and the curry leaves along with the oil ,green chillies,sakt and sugar to a mixie jar and grind to a smooth paste with little water
  3. Pour the ground smooth chutney in a bowl
  4. heat a teaspoon oil and temper with mustard seeds urad dal chana dal and few curry leaves. pour it on the chutney
  5. have it with masala dosa idli sambar goes well with any South Indian breakfast dish
