ABOUT Nellikai Pickle ( Gooseberry pickle) RECIPE

Its a sour, spicy and tart pickle made in a unique way in our home.

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. Gooseberry 500gms
  2. chilly powder 100gms
  3. Sesame oil 150 ml
  4. asafoetida 1tbsp
  5. turmeric powder 1 tsp
  6. Curry leaves 3 strands
  7. Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  8. Broken urad dhal 1 tbsp
  9. salt as needed


  1. Wash the gooseberries very well.
  2. Wipe the wet gooseberries in a cloth until dry.
  3. Cut gooseberries and remove the seeds.
  4. Grind the gooseberries in a mixie jar into coarse mixture. DONT ADD WATER.
  5. In a kadai pour 150 ml sesame oil.
  6. When the oil is hot add mustard seeds, broken urad dhal and curry leaves ,let it splutter.
  7. Make the stove to medium flame add the coarse ground gooseberry mixture.
  8. Stir the mixture in the oil on medium flame for 10 minutes.
  9. Now add chilly powder, turmeric powder , asafoetida, salt and stir the mixture for another 10 minutes.
  10. Now oil will float to the top at that time switch off the flame.
  11. When it's cool, transfer it to a glass or ceramic jar.
