ABOUT Guava Cream Cheese Custard Rolls RECIPE

Sweet rolls/sweet buns have been my favorite since childhood. This recipe will have you drooling with some authentic flavors! The creamy and delicious custard oozing out from the buns will make your mouth water. It€:tm:s become a family favorite now. It€:tm:s like a short cut Danish with cream cheese custard and tart guava glaze.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Sweet rolls - 5
  2. Cream Cheese Custard:
  3. Philadelphia cream cheese 4 ounces/115 g
  4. Milk 1-1/2 cup
  5. Sugar 6 tbsp
  6. Salt 1/8 tsp
  7. Cornflour 2 tbsp
  8. Butter, salted 1-1/2 tsp
  9. Vanilla extract 1 tsp
  10. TOPPING:
  11. Frozen guava juice concentrate, thawed 1/2 cup
  12. Cornflour 1-1/2 tsp

Instructions

  1. Place rolls on a tray.
  2. Use a small, sharp paring knife to cut out a cone shaped piece from the center of each roll, going a little past halfway deep. This creates a well for the custard filling.
  3. Cream Cheese Custard:
  4. Place all the custard ingredients except for the butter and vanilla into a blender.
  5. Blend for 30-60 seconds until all the ingredients are well incorporated.
  6. Pour into a saucepan and cook on medium-high heat, whisking frequently until the mixture is thickened and starts to bubble.
  7. Lower heat to medium and cook and whisk another 2 minutes. Don't let the bottom burn.
  8. Remove from heat. Whisk in butter, until it is melted in, then the vanilla extract.
  9. Pour into a bowl and cool 5 minutes.
  10. Spoon about 2 tbsp custard into each roll.
  11. Cover rolls with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator while you prepare the topping.
  12. Topping:
  13. Pour guava juice concentrate into a small saucepan.
  14. Whisk in cornstarch until there are no lumps.
  15. Cook over medium-high heat, whisking frequently until it is thickened and bubbling.
  16. Allow to cook 30-60 seconds more, then pour into a shallow bowl and cool to room temperature.
  17. Spoon 1 tsp. topping onto the top of each roll.
  18. They are ready to eat immediately, or you could wait for sometime until the guava topping firms up in the refrigerator.
