About Coconut Chutney Recipe

A delectable chutney thats so versatile, it can be served as accompainment with dosa or idli or as sandwich spread.

Coconut Chutney

Ingredients to make Coconut Chutney

  • 1 cup grated coconut (fresh or frozen and thawed
  • 3-4 Green Chilies
  • 1/2″ ginger piece
  • 1 tbsp roasted Bengal gram or roasted horse gram
  • handful of coriander leaves
  • salt to taste
  • 2 branches curry leaves
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • Dash of hing (asafoedita)
  • 2 tbsp oil

How to make Coconut Chutney

  1. Heat tbsp of oil in pan and fry 1 branch of curry leaves.
  2. Grind coconut with chilies, Bengal gram, coriander leaves, ginger, fried curry leaves, and salt to taste. Grind with little warm water to coarse (or fine) paste.
  3. Remove ground paste to bowl.
  4. Heat again tbsp of oil in same pan. Once oil is hot, add mustard seeds, hing, and curry leaves.
  5. Add this tempering to the coconut paste.
  6. Serve this chutney with dosa or idli or as sndwiches.
