Keema with Urad dal

Ingredients to make Keema with Urad dal

  • Keema (minced meat) 250 gms.
  • urad dal( white) 100 gms.
  • Cooking oil
  • onions 2 medium sized
  • tomatoes 2 medium sized
  • ginger -one small piece finely chopped
  • garlic paste-1tsp
  • cinnamon - small stick coarsely crushed
  • salt to taste
  • red chillies -1tsp
  • turmeric 1 tsp
  • coriander-cumin seeds powder 1 teaspoon
  • cloves -6 pieces coarsely crushed
  • cardamom -4 pieces coarsely crushed

How to make Keema with Urad dal

  1. Soak the urad dal for one hour.
  2. Heat the oil in a deep pan till it gets smoky.
  3. Add chopped onions and fry them till they turn brown.
  4. Add ginger and garlic paste and fry for 5 mins.
  5. Now add finely cut tomatoes, can use tomato purée if convenient.
  6. Keep on stirring, add salt, turmeric, red chili powder, coriander and cumin powder.
  7. Mix it well and add keema,
  8. Keep on frying keema for 10-15 mins, then add the remaining dry masala (cloves, cardamoms and cinnamon)
  9. Add the soaked dal and mix it well with Keema.
  10. Add 1 cup of warm water and let it cook for 10-15 mins.You can cook in the pressure cooker also, but you need to wait only for 1-2 whistles.
  11. Serve it in a shallow dish, can garnish with green chillies and coriander leaves.
  12. Serve with Pranthas or butter Nan.

My Tip:

To make it more formal keep a few pieces of boiled eggs on the side.
