ABOUT Kheera Pappu / Salad Cucumber Dal RECIPE

Kheera can be enjoyed best in salads, sandwiches or as a juice . It has a high water content that helps to keep your body hydrated, and the low calorie content makes it a great choice for a weight loss diet.I prepared a healthy and delicious pappu ( Telugu ) or dal with kheera. It tastes amazing when consumed with hot rice or roti.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Kheera , 1 medium size
  2. Yellow Split Lentils/Pigeon Pea split/ Kandi pappu / Toor dal – 1 cup
  3. Tamarind juice – 1 tablespoon
  4. Salt to taste
  5. Turmeric powder – 2 pinches
  6. Red chili – 1
  7. Green chilies ( slit ) – 2 to 3
  8. Oil – 2 tablespoons
  9. Mustard seeds – 1 teaspoon
  10. Cumin seeds – 1/4 teaspoon
  11. Black gram dal – 1/4 teaspoon
  12. Coriander leaves - 1 bunch

Instructions

  1. Pressure cook the yellow lentils in sufficient water. Allow it to cool.
  2. Now heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds , cumin seeds , black gram dal , red chili pieces one after the other. Saute till it turns golden brown in color.
  3. Add chopped kheera pieces to it. Cook for a minute over a low flame. Once the pieces turn tender , add slit green chili and transfer the boiled lentils to it.
  4. Add the tamarind juice to it.
  5. Sprinkle turmeric powder and salt to it. Mix well. Cook for two more minutes over a low flame.
  6. Turn off the flame. Transfer it into a serving bowl.
  7. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  8. Serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
