This is one of the delicious North Indian delicacies. I got a lot of recipes online for Dal makhani and found this recipe very easy and delicious.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. 1 cup whole urad dal
  2. 1 tbsp rajma
  3. 1 onion finely chopped
  4. 1 tomato finely chopped
  5. 2-3 green chillies finely chopped
  6. A handful of coriander leaves finely chopped
  7. 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
  8. 1/2 cup thick curd
  9. 2 tbsp Butter
  10. 1 tbsp Cumin seeds
  11. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  12. 1 tsp garam masala
  13. Red chilli powder to taste
  14. 1/2 tbsp dhania powder
  15. Salt to taste


  1. Soak rajma in water overnight.
  2. Soak Urad dal in water for 30 minutes just before cooking. Pressure cook rajma and urad dal together adding required water and little salt till soft for about 20 minutes.
  3. Let the cooker cool and mash the dal and rajma well. Add curd to the cooker and boil again for 10 minutes.
  4. Take a kadai. Heat oil, add jeera and once it splutters, add ginger garlic paste and onion. Fry till brown.
  5. Add green chilli and tomatoes and fry till soft.
  6. Add all the dry masalas (turmeric powder, dhania, red chilli powder,garam masala salt) and fry again for a moment.
  7. Add dal and fry on a medium flame till it boils. Once boiled switch off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves and a dollop of butter.
  8. Serve hot with rotis.
