ABOUT Dal khichdi RECIPE

This is a very healthy recipe made using split green gram.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Split green gram 1 cup( mung dal)
  2. Basmati rice 1 cup
  3. Carrots diced 1/4 cup
  4. Chopped beans 1/4 cup
  5. Chopped onions 1/2 cup
  6. 1 tomato chopped
  7. Minced ginger and garlic 1 table spoon
  8. Turmeric1/4 tea spoon
  9. Shahi jeera 1 tea spoon
  10. Cinnamon 1 inch
  11. Cardamom 4
  12. Black cardamom 2
  13. Mace 1
  14. Star anise 1
  15. Cloves 5
  16. Bay leaf
  17. Chilli powder 2 tea spoons
  18. Garam masala 1/2 tea spoon
  19. Green chillies 2
  20. Curry leaves few
  21. Chopped Cilantro 1/4 cup
  22. Oil or butter 3 table spoons
  23. Salt to taste
  24. Water 4 cups

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak equal quantities of rice and dal
  2. Take a pressure cooker and add oil or butter to it.
  3. Once the oil is hot add shahi jeera,bay leaf,cloves,curry leaves, cardamoms, cinnamon,mace,star anise in to it
  4. Then add onions,ginger,garlic and green chillies and sauté it
  5. Now add chopped tomatoes,turmeric, chilly powder,salt and garam masala to it
  6. Sauté for few minutes until everything cooks well.
  7. Add chopped cilantros
  8. Mean while boil 4 cups water and keep it ready.pour the water in to the cooker.
  9. Add rice and dal mix it well and check the salt
  10. Close the pressure cooker and turn it off after 2 visils
  11. Dal khichdi is ready to serve
