Khichdi

Ingredients to make Khichdi

  • Basmati rice 1 cup
  • moong dal 1/2 cup
  • hot water
  • Grated coconut for garnishing
  • salt to taste
  • For Seasoning:
  • mustard 1 tsp
  • green chillies 4
  • Chopped ginger - a small piece
  • urad dal 1/2 tsp
  • jeera 1/2 tsp
  • curry leaves 1 sprig

How to make Khichdi

  1. Take a pressure cooker. Add oil. Splutter mustard, jeera, urad dal and add curry leaves, green chiilies, ginger and saute.
  2. Add washed and soaked rice and moong dal and mix.
  3. Add hot water 1 inch above the level of rice. Add salt. Mix well and close the lid. Pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  4. Switch off the flame and once the cooker is cooled add grated coconut and mix well.
  5. Serve hot.
