This is very famous recipe of Bangladesh. But noe it is very popular in West Bengal.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Rice flour 3 cup
  2. Water 2 cup
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Rohu fish 6 piece
  5. Chopped onion 2 tbl spn
  6. Chopped green chilli 1 tspn
  7. Kashmiri chilli powder 1/2 tdpn
  8. Chopped corriander 1 tblspn
  9. Oil 2 tblspn
  10. Turmeric powder 1/2 tspn


  1. At first we have to take a pan and put 2 cups of water and 1/2 tspn salt in it and put it on gas for boiling. When it comes to boil then put rice flour in it and keep the gas flame medium. Cover the pan for 5 - 7 mnts.
  2. After 5 mnts open the lid and mix the flour with a stick and take the pan of from gas and again cover it and keep for 5 mnts.
  3. Now mix salt and turmeric with fish . Heat oil in a pan and fry the pieces of fish lightly.
  4. Now take rice flour in a plate and knead it smoothly with the help of water .Make a dough. Cover it and keep aside.
  5. Now take of the fish bones from the pieces of fish and mash it. Now add chopped onion, chopped corriander, chopped green chilli and kashmiri chilli powder in it and mix it well.
  6. Now take a small part of dough and make a ball and then give the shape like a handi . And again take a small part of dough and make a ball and give the shape of lid.
  7. Now take one tblspn of fish stuffing and put it in the handi and cover with the lid and press the edges with fingers to close it.
  8. Now make some design on edges of lid. It is optional. U can skip it.
  9. Now take a big pan and pour 2 cups of water and put it on gas for boiling. When it comes to boil keep the flame medium. Take a plate with holes and brush oil on it. Now put the handies on the plate and put the plate on the pan and cover it with another plate. Keep it for 15 - 20 mnts.
  10. After 15 mnts take the handi pithas in a serving plate and serve it hot or cold.
