ABOUT Mung dal rasam RECIPE

It is a spicy rasam which is suitable during winters.As this recipe contains ginger and black pepper it helps to soothe sore throat.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Split green gram or mung dal 1/2 cup
  2. Tomato 1
  3. Green chillies 2
  4. Turmeric 1/4 tea spoon
  5. Water 1 and half cups
  6. For tempering: oil 2 table spoons
  7. Mustard seeds 1/4 tea spoon
  8. Cumin 1/4 tea spoon
  9. Ginger 1/4 inch crushed
  10. Garlic crushed 4 pods
  11. Onions chopped 1/4 cup
  12. Pepper powder 1 tea spoon
  13. Curry leaves 5
  14. Salt to taste
  15. Jaggery 1/4 inch
  16. Lemon juice 1 table spoon
  17. Coriander chopped 2 table spoons

Instructions

  1. Pressure cook washed mung dal by adding chopped tomatoes,green chilles(slit) ,turmeric and water to it.
  2. After 3 to 4 visuals turn it off
  3. Heat oil in a pan and add all the tempering ingredients one after the other to it( mustard,cumin,curry leaves, ginger,garlic)
  4. Now add chopped onions, salt and sauté it
  5. To this add pepper powder and cooked dal
  6. Check the consistency and add water accordingly
  7. Now add jaggery, chopped coriander and allow it to boil for few minutes
  8. Finally add lemon juice and turn off the stove and serve hot
